Align business growth strategy to meet demands

Ciol News : Aug 03, 2009

Businesses always demand a strong strategy and understanding of the market trends. Such strategies and plans are always tested on extreme levels and sometimes required to get re-aligned and formulated depending on the business and economic scenarios

However, apart from such business policies, it's the leadership of business that plays crucial role in taking the business ahead amid the economic fluctuations and market volatilities. It's the leadership that aligns business strategies according to market conditions and tries to achieve growth.

Sridharan Mani has recently taken the charge of AMI India as director and CEO. Mani in conversation with Pankaj Maru of CyberMedia News discusses business challenges for his company, IT budget's impact on businesses and plans of operations expansion and shares AMI India's business perspective... Excerpts:

As the CEO of AMI India, what are challenges you see in the present slow business environment?

Owing to slowdown in business, the Indian PC market has shrunk by 19 per cent in the first quarter of 2009 compared to the same quarter of 2008, according to IDC. This affects businesses like us in the PC hardware and infrastructure market.

The slowdown in the market has marginally affected our projected revenue growth. We do find that the decision making time frame by end customers is increasing and in some cases, no decisions are made. Also we find that several of our customers have put their new projects and initiatives on hold.

We do find the demand in market place is shrinking and becoming more and more price competitive. So the key challenges in current business scenario are: decision making time frame is increasing, sometimes no decisions are made and in some cases, new initiatives have taken a back seat.

AMI India offers vehicle tracking, storage, embedded and BIOS solutions. However, IT budgets across verticals are shrinking to a great extent. So, in such situation how will you push the business in Indian market?

The good thing is that budgets are only shrinking and not eliminated. We believe that the customers buy the products and solutions that meet their needs and expectations. At AMI India, we provide cost-effective solutions by carefully targeting the needs of the customers. In short, we believe that listening to target customer base is the key to our success.

By aligning the business development strategy to meet the demands of the target customer base through proper channel management, we believe that we will continue to grow in the Indian market.

Which are the verticals you think that will have demand of IT products and solutions in India? Is AMI India having any plans to strengthen its operations in terms of investments, research centers, increasing staffs and so forth?

Some of the IT products and solutions that will have demand in India include the vehicle tracking systems, ultra mobile computing and embedded solutions, IP SAN and NAS.

Yes, we do have plans to increase our strength in India operations. We will be launching our next generation products by the second quarter of 2009 to meet the requirements of the market. Also we are planning to increase our network through channel partnership and distribution.

For AMI India, how important is India in terms of the business perspective and development in IT space?

India is one of the key emerging economies and hence, we find a good potential to grow. We do believe that this is the right time to make increased investments in India. AMI India has been promoting products and solutions that have been specifically designed for India markets. AMI India will be playing a crucial role in developing the next generation of IT products and solutions for American Megatrends.
